PSU Dubois Falls Short on the Road
While visiting their conference rival, the Nittany Lions of Dubois knew they needed to play at the top of their game in order to secure a victory on the road. Baskets were being exchanged for much of the half. Dubois' Senior Kyle Mills caught fire early going 3-4 from beyond the arc within the first ten minutes of the half. PSU Beaver answered with their own sharp shooting from Lamont Wright. DuBois held the lead 15-9 at the 15:00 mark. Beaver then applied pressure which led to Dubois turnovers and a tied ball game with ten minutes to go in the half. They kept the momentum as Dubois found themselves down 8 with five minutes remaining. With the half approaching, Dubois was closing in on the lead. As the momentum shifted, Dubois converted a quick layup from Sam Roselli and then back to back steals leading to scores from Louie Conde and Tristan Pirece in the final minute. Going into the half the game was tied 38-38.
The start of the second half was much like the first. Sam Roselli converted a quick layup just before a scoreboard malfunction interrupted the game momentarily. As play resumed, Dubois and Beaver continued to exchange baskets for much of the second half. With scoring from Roselli, Szklanka, Mills, and Conde, Dubois found themselves with a 10 point lead at the 8:00 mark. This sparked Beaver's Marcus Smith as he led his team to regain the lead 3 minutes later. Points in the paint late in the game was a key factor for Beaver. With two minutes remaining, Dubois found themselves just down 5. Dubois needed to foul at this point in the game. Beaver went 6-7 from the charity stripe to hold onto and secure the victory. Points off turnovers proved to be the deciding factor between the two teams. Strong bench play for Beaver proved beneficial on this particular night. Penn State Beaver held on to win 94-88. Sam Roselli led all scorers with 38 and 19 rebounds. Seniors Kyle Mills and Louie Conde followed with 19 and 16. PSUD will play there next game on Saturday, December 5th at PSU Hazelton. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00.
