Craig earns All American, Dubois athletics has successful weekend
It was an eventful weekend for Penn State DuBois Athletics as both the men's and women's basketball teams competed away, while members of the cross country program represented the campus at the USCAA National Championships.
The Penn State Dubois cross country team had a great showing at the USCAA National Tournament at the Penn State Fayette Campus Course on Saturday, Nov 8th by taking 6th place over all as a team, and finishing at the top of all PSUAC competing teams. Sophomore, Jack Craig was the lone All-American for DuBois placing 7th place in the race with a finishing score of 29:45.20. Craig also recieved first team All PSUAC honors along with the first team USCAA Honors. Teammate Eli Fox had a time of 32:15.00 and earned himself First Team PSUAC All PSUAC Honors. Brody Means ran a time of 33:40.30, David Kunselman ran a time 34:41.50, Logan Meier ran 41:17.80, and Chase Hook ran 43:46.60. Womens Cross Country had one runner Jasmyn Williams compete with a score of 34:57.80.
The women's basketball team continued their non-conference schedule with a competitive matchup agaist Villa Maria winning by a score of 73-62, showing strong defensive effort and improvement on the offensive end. Leading the team for the Lady Lions was Natalie Bowser, and Elizabeth Hungeville who each had double digit points and rebounds. Shannon Shaw and Eden Wonderling each had 11 points respectivley, with multiple assists in the game. The womens next contest is home on Nov. 11 as they square off against Beaver County Community College at 6pm.
The men's basketball team also took the court over the weekend at the Mont Alto Tournament coming out with a 1-1 record. Friday nights game against Bucks County CC was dropped by a score of 106-94 with Ashton Fortson leading the team with 36 points and 8 Rebounds, and Jordin Sommers and Josh Beer both scoring double doubles on the evening. Saturday afternoon the Lions came out strong looking for their first win of the season and accomplished just that in an impressive 81-71 win. Seniors, Jordin Sommers and Nate Cornelius highlighted the game. Sommers tallied 19 pts, 9 stl, 8 ast, 7 reb with Conelius scoring the team high of 27 points with 6 three's in the game. The men next travel to Thiel College on Nov. 12.
