DUBOIS, Pa. – The Penn State DuBois baseball team finished its regular season on a historic high note Tuesday, April 28, 2026, sweeping a doubleheader against Houghton College at Showers Field. The Lions secured victories of 15-6 and 3-2, ending the regular season with an overall record of 28-4 as they prepare for the PSUAC playoffs.
The day's most significant milestone belonged to standout catcher/outfielder Grant Lillard. With a multi-hit performance, Lillard officially broke the Penn State DuBois career hits record, surpassing the previous mark held by program legend Colby Bodtorf. Lillard entered the 2025-26 season with approximately 146 career hits and has maintained a stellar batting average over .475 this spring to reach the summit of the school's all-time leaderboard. This past weekend Senior Alex Gavlock recorded his 100th career hit leading the team to a conference sweep over Penn State Beaver that help DuBois claim the number 1 seed in the West Division.

The Lions' offense exploded for 15 runs in the opener. Lillard sparked the rally early, while contributors Isaac Tiracorda hit a game changing grand slam to open the flood gates. Lukas Colton continued his strong freshman campaign with a few hits himself while Alex Gavlock launched a solo homerun for his first homerun of the year. DuBois used a heavy mid-inning assault to pull away from the Highlanders and secure the comfortably-paced victory.

The nightcap proved to be a pitcher's duel. DuBois relied on timely hitting and lockdown relief pitching to preserve a slim one-run lead. The sweep ensures the Lions enter the postseason with significant momentum as they seek another PSUAC title.

This season has been very special, as it marks one of the final chapters for Penn State DuBois baseball, which is scheduled to conclude following the 2027 academic year with this being the final baseball season.
The Lions begin their postseason journey this Friday in the PSUAC tournament as they take on the winner of Penn State Scranton and Penn state Fayette at 7:15 pm at Showers Field.
